Couching Felts

Old wool blankets, towels, or cotton sheets — what wet sheets get pressed onto.

Time
5 minutes
Cost
$0

Steps

  1. 01

Cut your fabric into matching rectangles.

  2. 02

Soak each felt in clean water before use — a damp felt releases the sheet cleanly.

  3. 03

Stack: felt, wet sheet, felt, wet sheet... like a wet lasagna ('a post').

  4. 04

    Wash and reuse forever.

Materials
3

Safety

Low Risk

Mostly hand tools and inert materials. Standard studio hygiene applies.

Quick checklist
  • Work in a ventilated area; keep food and drink out of the studio
  • Read each material's safety data sheet (SDS) before starting
  • Have water, soap, and a first-aid kit accessible

Heuristic guidance derived from listed materials. Always consult each material's safety data sheet (SDS) and a qualified instructor before attempting.

Notes

Wool gives the smoothest finish; cotton is easiest to find. Don't use anything fluffy — fibers stick to your paper.
