Steps

  1. 01

Peel a wet sheet off its felt.

  2. 02

Lay it on the smooth surface and brush it down from the center outward, pushing out air bubbles.

  3. 03

Leave 12–24 hours; it will pop off on its own when dry.

  4. 04

The side touching the glass becomes glossy-smooth; the other side keeps its felt texture.

Materials
2
  • Smooth non-porous surface: a window, mirror, glass tabletop, fridge door, smooth tile, or formica counter
  • A soft brush (a clean wallpaper brush is perfect)

Safety

Low Risk

Mostly hand tools and inert materials. Standard studio hygiene applies.

Quick checklist
  • Work in a ventilated area; keep food and drink out of the studio
  • Read each material's safety data sheet (SDS) before starting
  • Have water, soap, and a first-aid kit accessible

Heuristic guidance derived from listed materials. Always consult each material's safety data sheet (SDS) and a qualified instructor before attempting.

Notes

This is the traditional Japanese washi drying method, and it gives the flattest possible sheet — no need for further pressing.
