Avocado Pit Pink

Three avocado pits give you a surprisingly elegant pink.

Color
Soft dusty rose
Yield
≈ 150 ml
Shelf life
2 weeks refrigerated

Simmer avocado pits in water and out comes a soft pink dye-ink.

  • Pits hold a surprising amount of natural pink-red color.
  • Crush them first to release more color, faster.
  • Color deepens with longer simmering.

Steps

  1. 01

Simmer chopped pits in water 1 hour — liquid turns peachy-pink.

  2. 02

    Strain and reduce until concentrated.

  3. 03

Add a pinch of salt to preserve.

Materials
3

Notes

Surprisingly lightfast for a plant ink. Skin gives even deeper pink.
