Mixed Berry Ink

Blackberries, blueberries, or elderberries straight from the freezer.

Mash any dark berry through a sieve, then thicken the juice with a little salt and vinegar.

  • Blackberries, mulberries, elderberries — anything that stains your fingers works.
  • Will fade in sunlight, so it's best for sketchbooks not posters.
  • Add gum arabic if you want a glossier line.

Steps

    Crush berries through a fine sieve into a bowl.

    Stir in vinegar (color) and salt (preservative).

  3. 03

    Strain through coffee filter for a clean ink.

  4. 04

    Bottle in a small jar — refrigerate between uses.
