WatercolorKitchenEasySafety: Moderate Risk
Avocado Pit Pink
The pit you usually throw away makes a startling pink paint.
Color
Soft dusty pink to coral
Binder
Gum arabic + honey
Simmer avocado pits until the water turns rosy, reduce, and bind with gum arabic.
- ▸The pit holds tannins that turn pink in water — totally hidden until you cook them.
- ▸A pinch of baking soda pushes the color from peachy to a brighter rose.
- ▸Free pigment from kitchen scraps.
Steps
- 01
Chop or smash the pits — more surface area, more color.
- 02
Simmer in water 1–2 hours until the liquid is rosy red.
- 03
Strain, then reduce on low heat to a thick syrup.
- 04
Stir in a pinch of baking soda to push the pink brighter.
- 05
Mix with gum arabic and honey, pour into a pan, let dry.
